Shutters and blinds are two types of window treatments that individuals often choose to adorn the windows in their homes. However, when choosing between the two, most individuals are uncertain of which is the best and often choose according to aesthetics. Now, we know everyone has their own taste, and while this should be a consideration, functionality should be the main deciding factor. Here are a few things that you should know about shutters and blinds that could make your decision much easier:

Shutters

Shutters are timeless window treatments with visual appeal that is suitable for any home and they are offered in different styles and materials to suit everyone’s needs and preferences. These unique structures are low maintenance, only requiring a wipe down each day, and they are highly durable, lasting almost 10 times as long as blinds would. They provide homeowners with light control, privacy control, insulation and ventilation. Another benefit of shutters is that they do not use any cords or chains which makes them the ideal choice for homes with children. However, the area of placement for these window treatments needs to be considered wisely as they require a lot of space to open.

Blinds

Blinds are another type of attractive window treatment. These treatments have many options to choose from, offered in the categories of slat blinds and full cover blinds. These treatments offer endless opportunities and have a style to suit any home interior. Though these blinds do not offer complete light exclusion, they do have the option of being paired with a window covering such as a curtain or sheer to obtain full light control. Blinds are the much more affordable choice between these two window treatments, though they do require more upkeep.
