Why it is important to maintain and clean your blinds

The right blinds are a beautiful addition to your home and there are many different blinds to choose from to suit your personal taste and needs. Keep in mind that whatever style you choose, you’ll need to maintain and clean them to keep them looking asgood as new.

Why is it important?

Once blinds are installed, they are often overlooked when it comes to cleaning. Although blinds are easier to maintain than curtains, this does not mean that they do not need cleaning occasionally. Have you been sneezing lately? Your allergies could be the result of the dust laying on your blinds. Wiping the dust that collects between your blinds is an important task, especially when the seasons are changing.

Maintenance for different blinds

Aluminium blinds will suffice with a weekly dusting. These blinds do not require a lot of maintenance but removing the dust is important to avoid bacterial build up. At least once a year, the blinds should be hand washed using warm water and dish washing liquid to get rid of any grime that a duster would not be able to clean.

Wooden blinds need to be cleaned with a non-abrasive cloth or vacuum cleaner weekly. The wooden blinds should also receive treatment as they are wooden, but users should avoid wax as this will make dust stick to the blinds. It is important to note that you should not clean your wooden blinds with water!

Fabric blinds are more difficult to clean than most other blinds. They can be vacuumed to get rid of dust, but any stains or marks require fabric cleaner. These blinds should not be submerged in water. If your blinds require a thorough clean, it is recommended that they are taken to a dry-cleaner.
