5 tips to choosing the perfect venetian blinds or window coverings for every room

How to Select the Best Suited Venetian Blinds or Window Coverings for Your Home

Are you struggling with making the choice for venetian blinds or window coverings for your beautiful windows? Are you aware of the differences between various types of blinds, or how to install them? How about cleaning them? The answer to these questions will help you determine which type of window coverings is best for your windows.

When considering blinds, you have several options available to you. There are roller blinds, roman shades, venetian blinds and blinds made from fabric or aluminium, to name only a few. You also have window blinds that come in different colours and widths. So let’s take a look at some tips that will guide you through the buying process, and make sure that you choose the best window coverings for your room.

#1 Selecting Window Coverings Is All About the Style

Obviously, you’ll want to install blinds that match your décor. This is a great departure point, and will help set the tone for the type of window blinds you choose. If you have a lot of wood in your home, you may consider adding some wooden blinds. If you have modern décor, then fabric blinds will complement your home beautifully.

By matching the style of the blinds to your home’s interior, you already have a lot more leeway when it comes to choosing the type of window blinds. With specific styles and material, you might be able to make a specific type of blind work in your home that would otherwise not mesh so well with the interior.

#2 It’s Also About Your Windows

Various styles of blinds open and close differently. Depending on the type of window, door or furniture you have, your decision might be influenced by specific styles. Ultimately, access also plays a deciding factor in which type of window coverings you choose, as you need to be able to reach the wand or cord with ease.

#3 Consider Privacy and Light Control

While this might not be one of the most obvious things you think about when considering your new venetian blinds, it’s still important. How much light control and privacy do you need? Your answer impacts every aspect of the blinds, from the material used to its style.

Venetian blinds are perfect for general living areas, as they place you in greater control of your privacy and light control requirements. Too little light, or too much? It’s easy to adjust the slats’ angle. The cord operation tilts the blinds at just the right angle. Create full light and visibility, or a completely darkened room for additional privacy.

#4 How to Measure Your Windows for the Correct Blinds

To start the measurement, first decide where the blinds will hang. Determine if the window has a recess, and decide whether the blind will fit outside or inside of this space. Make sure there’s nothing inside the recess that could obstruct the blind from being completely extended, such as phone sockets, fixtures or protruding handles.

Use a metal tape if possible, for greater accuracy, and measure the window across its width. As a rule of thumb, add an additional 10 cm to the total width, allowing for a 5 cm overlap each side of the window in order to block out light effectively.

#5 Colour, Colour, Colour

Ultimately, the style of your window coverings, the materials used, shape and size will all come to nought if you choose the wrong colour for your blinds. Choose a colour that beautifully complements your home’s colour scheme, and you are well on your way to enjoying a beautifully dressed window.
